English Camp

So today we started an English camp about 45 minutes south of where we live. There is a group here from the States to help with it and we had about 49 kids. All the children were excited to be there and I helped with the music. Unsure of how much English the kids already knew, we weren't sure what to expect. But they picked it up pretty fast and even could kinda make out some words written on the board. The second group of kids were girls. Now these girls were sharp. They got the song within the first 10 minutes (and each session lasted about 40 minutes), so we wondered what to do next. Then, much to our surprise, they were ready to sing their own song - in English! So they all stood up and started singing, "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes." Now they were a little shaky on the eyes and ears and mouth and nose part, but they shocked me with knowing that song.

All in all it was a really good camp. Tomorrow I'm expecting it to be even better. But I will say something I noticed about these kids was that not one of us had to correct any behavior - not once. It's like they already knew how to behave for class and for the adults. Now if only kids in the States could figure that out!

I didn't get to take any pictures of the camp, but I did want to post at least one picture. This is a tasty treat made here. The nest-looking part tastes exactly how it looks - kinda bland and twiggy. But the red center was the surgery treat - not and overwhelming taste - just right to complement the twigs. Zacky!

Wahad, Tenain, Tellat...

I am having so much fun going to an exercise class for women. It's nice to find a place to work out and meet other women in the area. It's also a good place to hear and practice Arabic. The leader of the class counts in Arabic, so I'm getting really good at those numbers. Also, she'll yell out if an exercise needs to be done to the left or right, again, only in Arabic. Before the class, I wasn't quite sure if I knew those, but I definitely do now.

So far I have lost 2 kilograms (which is about 4.5 lbs.) I still have a LONG way to go, but it will be worth it in the end. No pain, no gain...Sah?

Pink Crib

Here is a pic of Karis' new crib. She loves it and sleeps so well in it. Her room isn't very much right now, basically just a storage room with a crib in it. But someday maybe we'll get it filled with other furniture and decorations. Home sweet home.
